FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Boston Tea Party National Committee passes resolution opposing HR45
February 21, 2009
The Boston Tea Party National Committee passed a resolution 4-0 (with 2 not voting) opposing HR45 ("Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009").
“Basically, anything that may even remotely be associated with the sale, purchase, transfer or storage of a firearm or ammunition, will be under the authority and discretion of the Attorney General of the United States,” stated At-Large Rep. Darryl W. Perry.
The resolution states:
“WHEREAS the 2nd Amendment states "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed", and
WHEREAS the Supreme Court has ruled "that the operative clause of the Second Amendment—"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"—is controlling and refers to a pre-existing right of individuals to possess and carry personal weapons for self-defense and intrinsically for defense against tyranny", and
WHEREAS H.R.45 ("Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009") would make it “unlawful for any person other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to possess a qualifying firearm on or after the applicable date, unless that person has been issued a firearm license under title I of” this bill “or pursuant to a State firearm licensing and record of sale system certified under section 602" of this Bill.”
BE IT RESOLVED that the Boston Te Party National Committee opposes any and all infringements on the RIGHT of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.”
Party member Jim Davidson said this bill is “not getting the ‘tight rotation’ of news stories on shows like ‘Rachel Maddow’ so if it is going to be noticed in time to prevent it, it is up to us!” And added "The author of this bill was convicted of illegal firearms possession. He's a hypocrite for trying to legislate morality when he couldn't restrain himself from such conduct."

I did say that, but I'm not confident that it does anything for your press release. I would rather use a different quote. Like, "The author of this bill was convicted of illegal firearms possession. He's a hypocrite for trying to legislate morality when he couldn't restrain himself from such conduct."
