Nominations to fill vacancy for at large national committee member
Because a new candidate expressed interest in the open position on the national committee, the national committee has moved to open nominations to fill the vacancy.
Please nominate candidates on this forum space. A motion to nominate a candidate must be seconded by another member of the party. The candidate must accept that nomination in order to appear on the ballot. Nominations will be open for 7 days (until approximately 11:00 PM EST on Tuesday, July 15, 2009).

It is an unique system for nomination. I like it very much, because it was open for all and it's time duration was maximum.

Nominations officially closed a couple of hours ago.
Joy Waymire is the only nominee for the open At-Large Seat.
Miss Joy:
Does that mean I have gained the position by default? LOL... Sorry for the joke, but it turned out the way I thought it would. LOL... Have a Wonderful Day & I look forward to the task at hand.
I stand strong for Truth, Justice & Liberty for All People, near and far.
Miss Joy
planetaryjim:
No, I believe the bylaws require that we have an election, that it be between you and "none of these candidates" or "none of the above." And it has to be posted to the front page of the site.
Miss Joy:
I thought so. Do we have any idea when the voting shall take place? Need to know soon if this position is to be included on my plate or not. LOL... I'll keep watching for the notice to be posted.

I apologize. I dropped the ball on this one. I was supposed to post the poll a couple weeks ago, just after I got hired for a new job and became completely focused on work for weeks. I completely forgot that we had nominations open.
It appears that only Joy Waymire has been nominated, seconded, and accepted without withdrawing. You may vote whether or not to approve her at the following link during the next 7 days: http://bostontea.us/node/706

Hey y'all! Just so we are clear my name is no longer in the hat. My nomination is Joy! Thanks much and have a super happy Monday! :bean
southernpatriot:
Just a quick recap
Joy Waymire & Bean Smith have been nominated, seconded & accepted nomination.
Kim Johnson has been nominamted, seconded and has not yet accepted nomination.
Jason Gatties has withdrawn himself from consideration.
jasongatties:
Now that a couple more candidates have stepped forward, I would like to withdraw my name from consideration. I was only doing this to help the BTP out if no one else stepped forward. Now that others have stepped forward, I will gracefully step back and allow them to duke it out for the honor of serving on the National Committee. I'm in the early stages of planning something "big" for next year's election, so I can now just concentrate on that.
Thanks to Mr.Gaking & Mr.Perry for the nomination. Best of luck to those who will seek election to the National Committee.
Jason Gatties
Miss Joy:
As stated above, it says the nominations close Tuesday, July 15th; but Tuesday is the 14th, Wednesday is the 15th. So is it Tuesday or Wednesday? LOL...
What will be the dates for voting? Thanks for clearing my question. Have a Glorious Day!
inDglass:
Tuesday evening, around 11PM EST. Sorry for the mix-up.
southernpatriot:
Out of pure interest to have a competitive election; I nominate my good friend and co-host of OverGround RailRoad Kimberly Johnson.
jasongatties:
I'll second that as well. Again, no plans from me to actively campaign for this. I would really like to see a female become involved anyways.
Todd Andrew Barnett:
As the Secretary of this Party, I believe the At-Large Member has a vital role on the board, which is to administer the affairs and procedures of the Party, as specified in the BTP bylaws. In a direct sense, these elected members also represent the voice and interests of the party base and the organization itself.
There is one Party member who has given herself to her state party, even though she hasn't been active at the national level. But her ideas can be very well-received on the National Committee. Jason Gatties is definitely a fine choice as a nominee for the At Large position, but I think some competition to engage the interests of the membership is in order.
She has represented the State of California very well, and I have always come to respect her as a human being in every conceivable way. I've had her on my talk radio show as a panelist, and her insights are invaluable across the board.
Thus, I nominate Joy Waymire, outgoing Boston Tea Party of California Chair for the At-Large seat. She would make a fine choice as well.
Yours in Liberty in Perpetuity,
Todd Andrew Barnett
Miss Joy:
I am honored to have been nominated for this position. I hereby accept the nomination.
jasongatties:
I'll second it.
I have no plans to "campaign" for this seat. I was simply trying to help everyone out. If Joy gets it, then great.
planetaryjim:
Joy recently stopped being chair of the California BTP. Someone should definitely contact Joy to make sure if she wants this position. Meanwhile, I have suggested it to Bean Smith, who Joy chose to replace her as BTP chair in California.
Bean has indicated she'd like to run for the national at large seat. Joy has endorsed her as a candidate for the seat.
Therefore, I nominate Bean Smith.
Todd Andrew Barnett:
Actually, I did contact Joy to see if she were interested in the position, but then this was after I nominated her. Perhaps I should have done it before I threw in my nomination of her, but what's done is done. She has told me on her Facebook profile wall that she is interested in the seat, but she wanted to know about the duty of the position before she came to a decision. I gave her the link to the party bylaw Section A under Article 9: National Committee.
If she decides against it, that's fine. However, I felt she had great experience on a committee board considering she had done an excellent job in California. I considered Bean Smith for the seat, but I felt she would have too much on her plate if I offered her the seat. I wanted to go easy on her.
Anyway, next...
Frederick C Gibson:
if Joy should turn down the nomination, I also nominate Bean Smith
davidgi:
I concur with the nomination of Bean Smith
inDglass:
I second the nomination of Bean Smith.
bean:
Thanks Jim & Joy for your confidence in my ability to add momentum to our common goals for change! Joy, I nominate you!!!! And when you review that list of duties should you choose to turn it down, please forward it to me for review. Mucho gracias people, and have a super happy evening! :bean
inDglass:
As he has expressed interest and is also a fine candidate for this position, I move to nominate Jason Gatties.
Jason formerly served as chair of the national committee for only about a month, before family issues pulled him away from us for awhile. He has said he has the time to give to the party again. Jason ran a fine campaign as a BTP candidate for public office in the state of Michigan last year.
southernpatriot:
I second the nomination of Jason Gatties.
jasongatties:
I accept the nomination.
